The Sheriff’s Office is also known as the Court Enforcement Office.
If a tenant doesn’t move out by the termination date in an LTB eviction order, the landlord cannot personally remove the tenant and change the locks. The landlord must file the LTB eviction order with the Court Enforcement Office and make arrangements for changing the locks. Court enforcement officers will come to the property to ensure the tenant leaves the unit and supervise the changing of the locks. The Court Enforcement Office charges a fee for this.
To find the Court Enforcement Office closest to you, use the Ministry of the Attorney General website and click on “Court Addresses”. Then click on “Choose your municipality” and select your location from the list. Then, under “Choose a court office” select “Enforcement”.
