The RTA applies to most residential homes where people receive “care services” like:
- nursing
- supervision of the use of prescription medication
- help with feeding, bathing, dressing
- help in case of emergency
Certain types of accommodation that provide “care services” are not covered by the RTA. For example:
- long-term care homes legislated and funded by the provincial government, such as: nursing homes, municipal homes for the aged and charitable homes for the aged
- private and public hospitals
- most residential homes for persons with a developmental disability
- accommodation occupied by persons in custody or confinement
- accommodation for the purpose of receiving short-term respite care
